Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity
AEPi was re-colonized on at UNC in the spring of 2000, and received its charter two years later.  With a house in Fraternity Court (less than a block from NC Hillel), the brotherhood has a close relationship with us.  For more information, contact president Dustin Tupper.   

Sigma Rho Lambda Sorority
SRL, named after Sarah, Rebeccah, Rachel, and Leah, is a local Jewish sorority founded in Fall 2003.  SRL is an Associate Member of the Panhellenic Council.  The women have sisterhood events, mixers, date nights, community service projects and much more!  To learn more, contact president Alex Michael or visit the SRL website.

Dimes for Darfur
Dimes for Darfur is a year-long nation-wide effort in which Hillel will facilitate the effort to raise 1.5 million dimes ($150,000) to support the child victims of the genocide in the Darfur region of the Sudan.  The 1.5 million dimes symbolize the 1.5 million Jewish children that perished in the Holocaust.  Dimes for Darfur has two-fold mission: to both support the victims in Darfur financially and to raise awareness across colleges campuses to "Never Forget."  Look out for all the Dimes for Darfur events and initiatives on campus. Project Rush Hour
Tzedek Hillel's Project Rush Hour is a student-led initiative started in August 2001 to combat hunger and poverty in our community.  Students are trained and volunteer with the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service's Crisis Intervention Center in Carrboro and keep this food pantry and financial assistance program open into the evening hours two nights a week.  Students at UNC are the organizers, promoters, creators, and volunteers for the program with the support of NC Hillel and IFC staff.  To get involved contact Sheila Katz

S.U.D.A.N.
Students United for Darfur Awareness Now: A Project of NC Hillel (S.U.D.A.N.) was created in the fall of 2004 and is now the major Sudan awareness group on campus.  Learn about the situation in Sudan, and create awareness and action projects to help.  Contact: Hudson Vaughan.

Project Dinah
Project Dinah is a women's safety and empowerment initiative at UNC-Chapel Hill sponsored by NC Hillel.  Named after Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah whose rape story is told in the Book of Genesis (Gen. 34), this project strives to equip women with the knowledge and tools necessary to increase awareness of women's issues at the university and at large.  For information please write to Samantha Stiles

Jewish Environmental Group
Education, awareness, meetings, and events all about our environment! Composting, Eco-Shabbat, organic gardening, Tu B'shevat (the "Jewish Arbor Day"), and more!  Contact Dori Chandler for more information.

 Holocaust Remembrance Week
Each spring, NC Hillel sponsors HRW, a week dedicated to remembering and educating about the tragedies of the Holocaust.  Highlights include speakers, a memorial service, and a 24-hour Reading of the Names vigil in the Pit.  To get involved, contact Rachel Goldhaber or Shruti Shah.

 

Muslim/Jewish Dialogues
Be involved in cultivating the relationship between Jewish and Muslim students at UNC through programs, speakers, discussions and more.  Help plan Iftar in the Sukkah and the Muslim-Jewish Arts Festival.  Contact Aisha Saad to get involved.

Bina Initiative: Exploring Israel
The Bina Initiative: Exploring Israel is an opportunity for Jewish students and faculty/staff from UNC-Chapel Hill to be immersed in an intensive 11-session education and discussion forum about the many facets of Israel.  Discussion topics include politics, culture, history, current events and religion through guest speakers, film, articles, short stories, music, poetry and self-reflection.  This program is intended to foster an ongoing, open dialogue in a safe and pluralistic environment. The program runs from January to April.  Applications are available in December.  For more information, contact Diana Gergel.

Sababa

Shabbat and other Holidays

Shabbat Services
Friday night at 6:15pm, students, faculty, and guests gather for a fun, meaningful, and delicious pluralistic Shabbat experience.  Choose from three different services: Conservative, Reform, or Alternative (Curious?  Check it out!).  And stick around for a free, home-cooked Kosher dinner.  Need more details?  Want to lead a service or give a d'var torah?  Contact Rabbi Jessica Marshall.

Minyan Hillel
Once a month, Carolina students organize an egalitarian Shabbat morning service.  This hip, energetic service is led by and geared toward a young and lively group, and is always followed by a delicious kiddush!  For more information, contact Isaac Weiner.

Rosh Chodesh
A monthly celebration of women, for women, by women.  Always relaxing, always fun.
